rebelracewriter
PRESS RELEASE: 18th Annual LakeFest Drag Boat Race in Marble Falls on August 7-9 LakeFest 2009, August 7-9, marks the 18th year that the Marble Falls/Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce transforms Lake Marble Falls into a liquid quarter-mile "racetrack" and the banks of the lake into a wild three-day boat race party. On Friday, August 7, approximately 100 boats go in the water from 9 am to 4 pm for Test & Tune. Drag boat fans swarm Johnson Park on Friday evening for a chance to get up-close and personal with the drivers and boats. Fans will have a chance to buy official t-shirts and posters for autographs and have their picture taken with the stars of the show. A concert featuring Larry Salinas will begin at 7pm. The highlight of the evening comes at dusk as top-fuelers "fire up", shooting flames out exhaust pipes and splitting every ear-drum in the park. There is no admission fee for concert and Show & Shine. Gates open bright and early Saturday at 7 am, and qualifying races last all day. After the races are over for the day, spectators can enjoy a free concert in Johnson Park at 8pm. Concert features Raredog with special guest Jody Mullens, emceed by Kerry Wallum. Early-birds can arrive Sunday at Lakeside Park at 7 am to get a great seat for opening ceremonies at 11 am. Immediately after, top-fuel boats will thrill huge crowds with astonishing speeds that can top 240 miles per hour. The day is ended with over $70,000 in prize money given to the winners. As with any festival, there will be plenty of food, drink, merchandise and vendors to visit between races. Outside alcohol, pets and umbrellas are not allowed on festival grounds.
