Rules Update Posted For 2025 Chili Bowl Nationals

TULSA, Okla (July 3, 2024) - Announcing prior to the 2024 Chili Bowl Nationals powered by NOS Energy Drink the use of common frame rules utilized by Midget sanctioning bodies for the 2025 event, the final set of rules for the Chili Bowl has been published.

Along with the Chili Bowl frame guidelines, the rules include information that has been published on the entry form for several years regarding body panels, fuel usage, wheel covers, etc., as well as information that is normally stated during the daily driver’s meeting.

“We want to make sure everyone knows what to expect and can find the information without any issues, and really, the only thing that’s been added that was different from 2024 is the frame guidelines,” stated Tulsa Expo Raceway Technical Director Cody Cordell.

Chili Bowl Rulebook 2025

Section 1 – Design and Construction
A. All phases of design and construction are subject to the approval of the Technical Director. The Technical 
Director may exclude any car, design, or construction, which they deem unsafe or not meeting the 
specifications, the spirit and/or the intentions of the rules contained herein.
B. Right and Left side cockpit body panels may be a maximum of thirty-six (36) inches high as measured from 
the bottom frame tube at rear motor plate and projected rearward twenty-three (23) inches with a 
minimum eight (8) inches vertical opening from the afore mentioned point forward, including side visor
C. Side visors on roll cage will be limited to eight (8) inches tall.
D. Panels attached to nerf bars will not be permitted.
E. The number of allowable wheels is restricted to two (2) front wheels and two (2) rear wheels on each car. 
Use of anything other than a wheel and tire assembly is prohibited.
Section 2 – Fuel and Fuel Systems
A. In compliance with our contract with the Tulsa Fairgrounds, all participants MUST run fuel purchased from 
405 Performance Products at the event. This fuel, containing 10% ethanol, will improve the air quality 
inside the building. Fuel will be checked in the staging area, and any infractions will result in 
disqualification of the car and driver. A colored dye will be added to the fuel for the purpose of enforcing 
the rule, and fuel will be spot-checked during the week. There will be no exceptions, and this will be 
monitored by the Tulsa Fairgrounds. NO outside fuel will be permitted. Any trailers found to be 
transporting fuel into the building will be escorted from the premises by the Tulsa Fire Marshall. All fuel is 
subject to testing at any time. Any fuel that does not conform to standards, as administered at the track, 
will be considered illegal. The use of illegal fuel could result in disqualification for the event and/or the 
entire program.
B. All tanks must have a minimum of four mounts to the chassis.
C. The engine must be equipped with a fuel shut-off device located within easy reach of the driver.
Section 3 – Mufflers
A. Mufflers ARE REQUIRED. No Inserts. 
B. Loss of muffler will result in disqualification of that race.
Section 4 – Traction Control Devices
A. Traction control devices of any type are not permitted at any time, during any event.
B. Any team found with a traction control device in pre and/or post-race inspection shall be subject to
disqualification.
C. From time-to-time random inspections will occur and various components may be impounded for further 
analysis and inspection including, but not limited to ignition systems, ignition boxes, wiring looms and/or 
tachometers
Section 5 – Chassis and Frames
A. Frame and/or chassis must be constructed of 4130 normalized tubing or equivalent
B. All cars must have a roll cage that is integral with the frame and does not encroach upon an imaginary 
cylinder, 20 inches in diameter, extending through the top cockpit opening directly above the seat. The 
top of the roll cage should extend three inches above the driver’s helmet when seated in the driving 
position.
C. Roll Cage Construction cars constructed after 1/1/98, main uprights forming the roll cage must be a 
minimum of 1-3/8 inches O.D. x .095 wall thickness 4130 normalized tubing or equivalent.
D. See Diagrams listed below for specifications in Section 11.
Section 6 – Tires and Wheels
A. Hoosier SP-3 is the mandatory compound right rear tire.
B. Left Rear must be a Hoosier D12 (74, 76, 77, 78, or 80).
C. Any member that attempts and/or is found to be using tires that are found to be illegal in any manner will 
be subject to disqualification and/or fine and/or suspension.
D. The number of allowable wheels is restricted to two (2) front wheels and two (2) rear wheels on each car. 
Use of anything other than a wheel and tire assembly is prohibited.
E. All wheel covers must have a minimum of 5 attachment points if using dzus fasteners. Said dzus fasteners 
must be made of steel only. Wheel Covers having only 3 attachment points must be bolted-on all three 
points using a minimum 5/16”, flanged steel bolt and an approved fastening (nut assembly) system.
Approved fastening (nut assembly) systems: 
a. Keyser Manufacturing, part #100 7-101.
b. Wehrs Manufacturing Part # (WM377A-312 Aluminum 5/16) (WM377S-312 Steel 5/16).
c. Triple X Chassis Part # SC-WH-7810 (for a 1” spring) / SC-WH-7820 (for a 1 3/8” spring).
d. Smith Precision Products Part # MC-516-18.
e. Speedway Motors part # 910-07119.
f. Optional fastening systems that are equal or superior to the above approved system will be 
readily approved at the sole discretion of Tulsa Expo Raceway Technical Officials. 
Section 7 – Ignition and Electronic Equipment
A. All cars must be equipped with an ignition switch or emergency shut-off located within easy reach of the 
driver.
B. Any ignition, other than magnetos, must be approved by the Technical Director prior to their use in 
competition. It is the responsibility of the participant, not the manufacturer, to obtain proper approval.
C. Current list of approved electronic ignitions for Tulsa Expo Raceway events:
a. MSD programmable 6214, EFI R1i (red, gold or blue), MoTeC Ignition, Electromotive, Magnetos, 
Electromotive on Esslinger EST.
Section 8 – Personal Safety Equipment
Each competitor is solely responsible for the effectiveness and proper installation, per the manufacturer’s 
specifications, of personal safety equipment and determining it to be adequate for competition at every 
event. Each competitor is expected to investigate and educate themselves for continuing improvement regarding 
their own personal safety equipment.
A. Seat belts and Restraint System
a. Each car must be equipped with a minimum of an SFI 16.1 or SFI 16.5 approved restraint system. 
The restraint system will be eligible for use in competition until the expiration date or for 2 years 
from the date of manufacture. Seat belt restraint systems shall be installed and used in 
accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
b. In any type of manufacturer’s installation, the fasteners must be as supplied by the 
manufacturer.
Section 9 – Electronics
A. Wi-Fi, Cellular, Bluetooth, or Satellite devices (including cell phones and smart watches) in or attached to 
the race vehicle or the driver will not be permitted.
B. RACEceivers are mandatory.
C. Two-way radio communication is not permitted. Anyone found using a two-way radio will be disqualified 
and removed from competition for the duration of the event. Further consequences are at the discretion 
of the Technical Director the Director of Operations. 
Section 10 – Miscellaneous
A. Any part that may appear illegal is subject to confiscation at any time without notice for evaluation. If 
deemed necessary by series officials, any confiscated part may not be returned.
B. All teams must have a working Fire Extinguisher in their trailer.

Glad to see that they're tightening up the rules concerning the roll cages. Those cars get a lot of air time there, so stronger is better.
