On July 21, at around 1:20 p.m., officers working security at the event reported there was a fatal accident. Police say a boat driven by a single driver caught air while racing at an estimated speed of 200 MPH, causing the boat to flip and throw the driver from the vehicle. Medical teams got the driver out of the water under one minute after the incident, but the driver was unresponsive and pronounced dead, according to police.
